I had a hard time when I first got on Facebook because people use their real names there. If you had a consistent picture, it made it easier for me to make the mental connections. That's why I've made an effort to change mine everywhere to stay consistent (so I'm the same here and at Twitter and at Friendfeed) and done posts to note the change. I'm really happy with my little cartoon character, so I think I'm not going to be changing it anytime soon. I see it as my "logo" for my personal brand now. I agree Tony. It seemed to take about a day before it happened for me. My avatar really is me, sort of.
